The "Old Church" stands on the oldest populated area in Buldern. The Buldern Castle used to be located not far from here, protected by the Carthusian Mühlenbach and Hagenbach. This main farm formed the nucleus of the village.
The exact origins are unfortunately not known. Construction of a tower began here around 1050. The lords of Buldern built this private church on their land. As landowners, they now had the right of patronage - i.e. the right to propose a pastor, whom the bishop then appointed.
Other privileges were that the pastor was obliged, for example, to announce messages from the landowners from the pulpit after the service. The respective baron was also entitled to the hereditary burial in the choir of the parish church.
