The castle Hohnstein is the last completely preserved of the rechtselbischen castles. Originally built as a frontier fortress of Bohemia against Saxony, this went from 1806 to the possession of Kursachsen. Since then, the castle was repeatedly used as a prison until the Second World War. Since the time of the GDR, the castle has hosted a youth hostel and a history and natural history museum.
