Several signs line the way, with explanations of the special features on site, for example, in the lower part of previously diseased and contaminated animal carcasses were disposed of

Wild-romantic gorge, dilapidated bridges, pure nature. When it rains very smooth especially the stones, but some also ride parts with the bike and carry it the rest.

A narrow gorge below Hohenstein Castle. Unspoilt walking path from the Polenztal to the Bärenzwinger and then up to Burg Hohenstein or the nature trail following the direction of Gautschgrotte. Due to the clean air, the clean water and the cool basement climate grow here rare lichens, mosses and ferns on the rock walls, which are sometimes quite close together. The path follows the stream. At the end are the dilapidated wall remnants of the Bärenzwingers the castle Hohenstein.

Quite a strenuous climb from the Polenztal in the direction of Hohnstein, but very worth seeing and through the nature trail you learn a lot about the Schindergraben and the bear garden.

Very nice little stone bridge in the middle of the forest.Especially children or big adventurers who want to go on a discovery tour will like this bridge. You are just waiting to find a treasure chest or a little gnome :-).
Nice little highlight. Especially nice when the little brook splashes.

Hohnstein had once for the Dresden court, as well as the neighboring Lohmen, a great hunting significance.
Already in the year 1522 a "Tyrgartten" in Hohnstein is reported but can only be regarded as a forerunner of the later bear garden. The actual bear garden was created on behalf of Elector Christian II. The year of origin is 1609 and the costs are given with 2051 guilders. As building material for the more than one meter strong wall carved sandstone was used.
The animals were kept here in Hohnsteiner bear garden, for cruel hunters on the old Dresden market and in the castle courtyard of Dresden. From Hohnsteiner Tiergarten are today only wall remains to see. Particularly impressive is the lower masonry with its round arch gate the bear catcher. He served to capture the animals for removal. The high cliffs at the Burgberg as well as the "Großkäse" and "Rittersporn" replace a wall construction on the west and east side of this enclosure.

This path leads from the Polenztal in the direction of Hohnstein and on the Malerweg, stage 3. A very nice way, very narrow with steep rock faces.

A path with many stones and roots through a shallow valley with beautiful flora.
You should be sure-footed and not try with sandals.
