At the Vismarkt, as the name might suggest, fish was sold. In the old toll house (1899), also called the Minck House, the fishmongers had to pay a toll. Further on there are two beautiful covered sales stands. You can reach the Fish Market via the Fish Gate with a large image of the sea god Neptune.

Hiking

Until 1714, the western arm of the Ieperlee ran here in the open air. That year it was covered over, which widened the Waterstraat that ran along the river. After the fish sales moved from the Boomgaardstraat to here, the name change was also a fact. The sea fish sellers had a covered counter, but the river fish sellers stood at counters under the open sky.
