The almost 30 m high Helenenturm is located high on the Helenenberg on the edge of the Ardeygebirge. Judicial Councilor Strohn had it built in 1858 in the tradition of national monuments in memory of his wife Helene, who died young. After 144 steps at the top, the visitor has an impressive view over the city to Bochum and Dortmund. The forest area above the river to the west and the Witten city park offer further beautiful views over the Witten Ruhr Valley. The tower is only open as part of organized tours or on special occasions.
