Steinhausen Castle was built in the 13th century by the Lords of Witten to secure a Ruhr crossing. However, Schloss Steinhausen got its present appearance essentially after 1893, when a Witten entrepreneur took over the complex and had it adapted to the zeitgeist in the style of historicism. Steinhausen Castle can only be visited from the outside, but the castle park is freely accessible.

Today Steinhausen Castle houses a restaurant above the Ruhr, as well as a beer garden in the courtyard. In the old stables you will find today a stonemason and a mountain bike school. In the castle park is a remarkable permanent exhibition of Shona sculptures from Zimbabwe, which can also be purchased.
