Very nice view of the small town of Dernau on the Ahr.
After the end of the Roman era, with a few farm buildings near the church of St. John the Apostle, Dernau belonged to the Franconian Carolingian Empire. The remains of two medieval moated castles with the associated moats could still be seen in the "Im Graben" and "An der Burg" plots of land until the 1950s. Dernau was first mentioned in documents in 893.

Dernau, the largest wine village on the Mittelahr, offers its visitors a multitude of possibilities throughout the year to enjoy the regional flair as well as the local red wine. From Dernauer Weinfrühling in April to the wine festival on the last weekend in September to the Martinsmarkt in November, the visitor can experience a part of the tradition and the verve of the inhabitants.
Dernau is dominated by the Krausberg, an excursion destination, from whose tower you can even see Cologne Cathedral on a clear day. If the white flag on the tower blows, the Eifelverein invites you to a home-made delicacies after the ascent.
