Penrhyndeudraeth, which means 'the headland of two beaches' in Welsh, is a serene small town that's well located for hiking adventures in some of Northern Eryri's less frequented ranges. There are numerous accommodation options and amenities.

Its modern day tranquillity hides the fact that the town was once home to Europe's largest explosives factory. Having supplied both the coal mining industry and Allied forces during both world wars, operations ceased in 1995. The North Wales Wildlife Trust now look after the land where the works were, as nature reclaims this once industrial site.
