When the Ahr flood from 14./15. July 2021 the Maria Hilf Bridge was destroyed. The remains were flushed a few tens of meters below into the spa gardens. The city administration had a sign attached to the remains of the bridge with the inscription "Please leave it where it is" - as a reminder of the numerous deaths in the flood night and as a reminder to treat nature and the environment with care.
A decision on whereabouts is still pending.
