The ice chapel can only be reached from Sankt Bartholomä, which means: you first have to take the boat across the Königssee to the St. Bartholomä stop. From the boat dock, walk towards the national park information point. Here there are signs pointing the way across the Eisbach to the Chapel of Saint Johann and Paul. At the chapel the hiking trail becomes steeper and crosses a short section of forest. After the forest you can see the mighty Watzmann east face. Along the often dry stream bed of the Eisbach, the path leads through the rough terrain between boulders to the ice chapel. You should allow around one and a half to two hours for the approximately 6 kilometer long hike from St. Bartholomä to the Eiskapelle with an altitude difference of 250 meters.
