To commemorate the reunification of North Schleswig with
Denmark in 1920, memorials were erected across the country. Also in Ringkøbing, but this turned into a longer story, lasting more than 100 years.
At first you couldn't find a stone, and when you found one, you couldn't find any matching text. The memorial stone therefore remained without text until the memorial was dismantled in 1960 and the stone was taken to Ringkøbing Museum. 101 years later the monument was re-erected in the museum and the stone finally got its text. In the words of Valdemar Lange, Ringkøbing's prankster and household goods merchant in the 1920s:
"Below rests a good idea after best efforts; very short was her life, too soon she had to surrender to death."

How fortunate that the German-Danish border hasn't been seriously questioned for over 100 years. Don't forget.
