The Biesenhorster Sand is a sandur area from the Ice Age and is now a biotope with many protected animal and plant species. The original forest area was cleared in the middle of the 19th century and used as arable land. In 1918, allotments were created there, which had to make way for the construction of the outer freight ring in the 1930s. During the GDR era, the Wuhlheide marshalling yard and a Soviet army barracks area were located here. In 1994, military use ended and the marshalling yard was also closed. Since then, nature has been reclaiming the area. There is an information board at the beginning of the path.
