Ybema's Mill was built in 1899. It worked with wind until 1951, but fell into disrepair in 1955, then a carpenter F. de Groot von Ferwoude restored it at a cost of 4,130.38 guilders. In August 1963 the mill was bought by the municipality of Nijefurd for 1 guilder. Further restorations were carried out in 1969 and 1981. In 1986 the mill was sold to the Mill Foundation Nijefurd. In 2006 the mill was completely restored. A new cast-iron windshaft was installed, replacing the previous wooden one. A new Archimedes screw was fitted and the mill was ready again. The mill was held in reserve by Wetterskip Fryslân. A sail broke on November 27, 2011. In November 2012, a replacement pair of sails was fitted. The mill is listed as a Rijksmonument.
