Bolsward became really wealthy in the 17th century through the milk trade. You can see this well in the houses along the city canals of that time. You can admire outstanding canal houses with facades in baroque, rococo and neoclassical style on the Appelmarkt and the Marktstraat. On the longest canal called the Dijl with the large Dijlakker and the small Dijlakker on either side you will find beautiful molded facades, a beautiful neck gable and a number of simple stepped gables as well as a beautifully decorated version. In summer you should take the tour boat through the historic canals. Text: VVV Waterland
