Being a ford by name and nature, it is obviously possible to get right down to the water's edge on both sides of the river, which can be crossed via a small wooden bridge. Great place for a quick break.

A very picturesque both ford and viaduct over River Esk just north of Rake Cottage. Very lovely and green on the banks too. Don't worry, if you're not a forder like me (I'll ford anything as long as I don't think it'll kill me), then you can take the viaduct/bridge to get to the other side as you can clearly see from the paths shown on the Komoot map.
