Hiking

Wine has been cultivated in Berlin and Brandenburg since the Middle Ages, specifically since the 12th century. This came to an end after a severe winter in 1740/41 and subsequent deforestation. Since 1999, wine has once again been grown in Prenzlauer Berg, specifically Riesling. A demonstration vineyard was created near the water tower in cooperation with Austrian winegrowers. In 2004, the "Förderverein Weingarten e.V." (Association for the Promotion of the Vineyard) was founded. It pursues exclusively non-commercial interests, and therefore the wine is not for sale.
