The Kiel Savings and Loan Bank was founded on July 1, 1796, by the Society of Voluntary Friends of the Poor to prevent the impoverishment of broad sections of the population. It is considered one of the oldest savings banks in Germany and became part of today's Förde Sparkasse in 2007.
