The strongest sulfur-containing spring with a high brine content is the thermal sulfur brine spring, which is piped to Bad Nenndorf from a good five kilometers away and used in the Landgrafentherme. The spring was re-drilled in 1965, close to the old brine spring, which is also piped over to Bad Nenndorf. Before the water reaches the Landgrafentherme, it is desulfurized so that you bathe in pure thermal brine water.

The thermal sulfur brine spring is also called the “New Landgrafenquelle” and comes from a depth of around 300 meters. It is a thermal brine containing iodine and sulfur at a temperature of around 21 degrees with a sulfur content of approx. 140 mg/l, a brine content of approx. 17 percent and an iodine content of approx. 2 mg/l. At around 21 degrees it can be classified as a thermal spring. It is one of the strongest brines in Europe and one of the strongest sulfur sources in Central Europe.

The thermal sulfur brine source is also used in diluted form for baths. The brine content of this spring is so high that it would be difficult to bathe in undiluted form because the body would not be immersed enough.
