The Issel is an 81.5 km long German-Dutch river that originates in Raesfeld. It flows through, among other places, the western Münsterland and the Dutch regions of Achterhoek and Liemers (Province of Gelderland). In the Netherlands, the river is called Oude IJssel. In Doesburg, in the catchment area of the major city of Arnhem, the Oude IJssel flows into the IJssel (Geldersche IJssel), which in turn flows into the IJsselmeer.
