Jean Paul about Bad Berneck:
Jean Paul was particularly fond of the Bernecker gingerbread. In September 1820, since his supply was once again exhausted, he wrote a letter to his son Max in which he asked him to go to Berneck with his friend Emanuel Osm to buy new gingerbread himself: “I've been sitting there for three months 'I at my desk without a bite of Bernecker gingerbread; because a mouse in my suitcase had all the supplies to core it out, finely sifted. "
