Hiking
The site is an important testament to the Christian history of the region. The basilica was probably built in the 6th century AD, a time when Fiskardo (then known as Panormos) was an important Roman trading port.
It was an impressive three-nave basilica. Particularly striking are the two almost square, two-story towers on the west side, which still stand today, partially reaching a height of about 6 meters.

Historians suspect that the construction of such a monumental church served to consolidate Christianity in a flourishing Roman city. There are also legends that the body of the Norman conqueror Robert Guiscard, after whom Fiskardo is named, was briefly laid out in this basilica after his death in 1085.
The ruins are accessible via a picturesque hiking trail, often referred to as the "Lighthouse Trail".
The trail leads from the harbor in Fiskardo through shady pine and cypress forests, past the Venetian lighthouse, directly to the church ruins.
