The lighthouse is characterized by an imposing, cylindrical tower reminiscent of an ancient column. It is surrounded by a stone wall about two meters high.
The severe earthquake of 1953 significantly damaged the structure. In 2018, the structure was extensively restored through a private initiative by the Apostolides family.
The old tower is no longer in operation as a lighthouse. It is occasionally used for exhibitions.
