The small canal that connects the Elbe-Havel canal with the Elbe near Niegripp was formerly used to pull ships from the bank into the Elbe using a rope and manual force. A very, very strenuous, poorly paid way of earning a living. It is always quiet along the canal. A small, almost secret path, a gem where beavers and nutria feel very much at home. At the turnoff to Niegripp you can walk a little further to a beautiful bench with a view of the Elbe meadows towards Rogätz. Here the Kilimanjaro also shows itself in its most beautiful light.
