Looking into the beautiful Leogang valley, one can well imagine that human settlements were likely to have existed here thousands of years ago. After all, Leogang was mentioned in documents as early as 930. It is the oldest mining site in the Salzburg region and ice was mined for the breweries in Munich at the Birnbachloch - the lowest-lying glacier in Europe.

Today Leogang lives mainly from tourism and therefore you can enjoy wonderful views on well-developed hiking trails.

Hiking

The Salzburg holiday resort Leogang has more than 3,000 inhabitants and is located at 788 m above sea level in a valley basin, the elongated Leogang valley. Surrounded by the Leoganger Steinberge and the Kitzbühel Alps, the place is definitely a very good starting point for hikes in this region.
