The current church was consecrated on December 7, 1752 on the site of a smaller church that already existed, as attested by a plaque near the bell tower. The church is one of the few examples of Baroque architecture in southern Calabria. It suffered no damage after the earthquake of February 5, 1783, but was destroyed by the subsequent tsunami of February 6, 1783.
