The landmark of Wachenheim towers on the hillside above the village. In addition to a fantastic view from the former donjon there is also the castle tavern Wachtenburg with Palatinate specialties, snacks and wines from the region.
The summer terrace is also recommended.

Imposing walls from the 12th century in partly very good condition.
Worth to look at in any case.
The castle grounds are open all year round and throughout.
    Admission is free.
There is also a castle tavern.

The ruin Wachtenburg will be honorary by the
"Förderkreis for the preservation of the ruin Wachtenburg e.V."
cared for and maintained by dedicated members in their spare time.
    Tasks and goals:
The most important and outstanding task of the association is the preservation of the ruin Wachtenburg. After partial exposure of the remaining foundations and outer walls of different building epochs, it is necessary to perform the backup and rehabilitation with suitable materials, based on modern and modern knowledge and techniques so carefully that the substance is secured for the next generations. In addition, the care of the environment of the castle is an important matter, so that the view of the castle walls is possible from all sides. Order and cleanliness of the castle grounds should give a visually positive image.

The Wachtenburg was built in the 12th century - probably by order of Konrad von Hohenstaufen -, its first written mention dates from 1257. It is the ruins of a spur castle on a 232 m above sea level. NN high mountain spur of the middle Haardt. The castle on the so-called "Schlossberg" directly above Wachenheim an der Weinstraße is considered the landmark of the place. Interesting building with castle tavern and splendid patio.

The Wachtenburg, also called the balcony of the Palatinate. A trip here is always worthwhile. The Burgschänke is always open from May to October on Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat and Sun and in the remaining months on Wed, Fri, Sat, Sun. Delicious and inexpensive food, good drinks. Outside is self-service, in the Burgschänke you are served. Even if the castle inn is not open - the castle complex is still. You have a great view of the Rhine plain.

Unfortunately, the doors are closed again here. Corona sends its regards. But still a great castle, a great view and always worth a detour!
