From the Michaelskapelle you have a beautiful view of the wine villages Deidesheim and Forst. You can see all the way down the Rhine to Heidelberg and the Odenwald. In good weather you can even guess the ridges of the Black Forest.
The chapel is dedicated to the Archangel Michael. It was built for the first time in 1470, but then has been repeatedly disintegrated and destroyed and was rebuilt in 1952 in its present form.
There are probably also times services, information is available at the parish HL. Michael Deidesheim.

Definitely worth it. However, there is only one table group, which is occupied at least on the weekend of groups. Either come really early or in the late afternoon.

After a short climb you reach the Michaeliskapelle with a wonderful view over the Rhine plain with Deidesheim in the foreground. Then you dive into the numerous paths in the forest e.g. to the Heidenlöchern, or to the Eckkopf or in the south back to the Wallberg or to the north to Wachenheim.

Fascinating what there is to know about the Archangel Michael: He is considered the patron saint of Germany, once fought successfully in battles with overpowering opponents, is often portrayed with a flaming sword and much more. No wonder that Michael is not only a popular name in German-speaking countries.

Probably the most famous sanctuary dedicated to the Archangel Michael is in France. It is the "Mont-Saint-Michel", in the far north of the country on an island in front of Normandy. This unique monastery island is not only a place of worship, but also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

This Deidesheimer church was consecrated to the Archangel Michael. The name (coming from Hebrew) means "Who is like God?". He is often depicted - on paintings or as a statue - with a flaming sword, and occasionally a lance. Michael is - together with Raphael, Gabriel and Uriel - one of the four archangels who (according to human imagination) occupy the highest rank in the heavenly hierarchy of angelic beings. Their common feast day in the saints calendar is September 29th.
