Brauhaus Unfinden

A very original brewery that has been in operation again since 2008 and after a 50-year break. On certain dates, there is a lot of brewing - you can see that as a visitor. You can find more information here: brauhaus-unfind.com.

The Brauhaus Unfund is a listed building in the middle of the historic center of the beautiful half-timbered village of Unfund, right next to the Bonifatius Church. It was built around 1671 and served the purpose of brewing beer for all Unfund citizens who had brewing rights. In 1833 the building was expanded and remodeled. In 1878 hops were grown on 4.5 days. Beer brewing in this communal brewery stopped in 1956.
In 2003, when the Brauhaus Unfund support association was founded to renovate the brewery and “breathe life back into it”, it was in a miserable condition.Source: brauhaus-unfind.com

A rarity in this brewery is the historic malt kiln with the high, round chimney, which was subsequently installed in the existing building. In this, the germinating barley grain was laid out on a steel grate and dried using the waste heat from the furnace underneath. This is how you make your own malt.Source: brauhaus-unfind.com
