The current chapel was built in 1950, replacing a Gothic predecessor from 1890 that was destroyed in the Second World War. The chapel's location on the Sonntagsley hill is a well-known vantage point overlooking the old town, offering views of the historic old town with its slate roofs, as well as the surrounding landscape including the Rahmenberg and Haller hills.
