The Witznitz reservoir is located near Borna in Saxony. The reservoir was put into operation in 1954 as the first larger dam in an opencast mine. It was created in the excavation cavity of the Witznitz I opencast mine, which was closed in 1945.The striking yellow clinker building of the former Witznitz briquette factory is a landmark that cannot be overlooked east of the warehouse.In addition to flood protection, the plant serves to provide raw water for the Lippendorf power plant, commercial fishing, water sports and leisure recreation.
