In the bull from 1473 by Pope Sixtus IV (1414 - 1484), after which the Sistine Chapel in Rome is named, the Gothic hall church in Zöpen is mentioned for the first time and is thus given the name of St. Laurentius. The major renovation in 1693 gave the church a baroque character. The altar and pulpit were made by the sculptor Andreas Griebsteiner from Weißenfels. In the end, this conversion must have looked very splendid for the village conditions. The tower was only pointed in 1744 and reached a height of 53 m.Source: kirche-bornaer-land.de/laurentiuskirche-kahnsdorf
