The strenuous and alpine crossing of the Hochkalter in the mountaineering village of Ramsau does not have any safety devices and challenges the mountaineer with climbing sections up to the second degree of difficulty. Attention: For experienced users only! Only feasible for really experienced, absolutely sure-footed, free from vertigo and fit mountaineers.
From the Hintersee to the Blaueishütte and on to the remains of the wall of the old hut. Behind it to the right and up a scree gully under the prominent saddle of the "Schönen Fleck". This is reached from the right via easy-to-grip slabs interspersed with mountain pines across the Kleinkalter into a col. Here the terrain steepens again and leads over short, exposed climbing sections to the Hochkalter. From the summit over steep rocky terrain into the Ofental and down to the Hintersee.
