The St. Bartholomew's Chapel in Salem stands on a small hill and is therefore easy to see from afar. At the top of the church you have beautiful views of Salem and the lake from the elevated position.
The chapel is first mentioned in the visitation report of 1581, but is probably much older. Today's brick building was built in 1838 according to plans by the Copenhagen master builder Hansen. The altar window, which was designed in 1979 according to a design by the Hamburg artist Claus Wallner, shows the risen Jesus in conversation with Thomas and the other ten disciples. The platinum cross and the two platinum candlesticks on the altar were gifts from Claus Wallner's widow.kirche-ll.de/gemeinden/lauenburg/sterley/geschichte.html
