The basin area of Büyük Menderes is 24.873km2 and the water area is 1.732km2. It meets the water needs of the industrial and tourism sectors, especially agriculture. It has been included in the water conservation program by WWF (World Wildlife Fund). The name of this program is Living Rivers Living Aegean Project.

The Büyük Menderes River originates from the Dinar district of Afyon, passes through the provinces of Uşak, Denizli and Aydın and flows into the Aegean Sea.
