Built in 1357, it is the oldest preserved building in the state capital, whose old facade is reminiscent of the former city wall, to which the Beguine Tower belonged as a defensive tower. In the course of time the Beguine Tower was sometimes a warehouse, sometimes a prison and most recently from 1972 to 2007 also a pub before it came under the care of the Historical Museum and was reopened as an exhibition space in 2014 after extensive renovation.
