"The street of work is a large themed hiking trail that leads across the Bergisches Land and is reminiscent of the proud and long industrial history of the region between the Ruhr and Sieg. The street of work follows existing hiking trails, but is nevertheless uniform with its own signpost 2005 from the Sauerland Mountain Association (SGV) has been marked.

The street of work picks up different aspects of the industrial history in the Bergisches Land. Eight main themes provide the template for the route. The topics are separated from each other by color in the information brochures and on display boards.

The starting sequence from Wuppertal to Wipperfürth, which is dedicated to the textile industry on the Wupper, is called the white route. The yellow route follows old trade routes from Wipperfürth to Marienheide. The gray route deals with early industry and the green route deals with smugglers' paths in the former border region on the way to Reichshof.

On the silver route from Eckenhagen into Nutscheid, ore extraction is the subject of discussion. The blue route leads from Morsbach to Nümbrecht and provides information about the water that the early industrial settlement in the Bergisches Land made possible in the first place. On the black route from Nümbrecht to Engelskirchen, heavy traffic is the focus and the red route is all about iron processing in old forge hammers."
