Vor Frue Church has always been an important building in Aalborg. This is shown, among other things, by the fact that it is symbolized in the old Aalborg coat of arms together with Budolfi Cathedral and the Monastery Church.

The current church building dates from 1878, when the original church was demolished due to dilapidation. The Romanesque-inspired church is located in the middle of old Aalborg, surrounded by old buildings. When the church was built in the early 12th century it was called "Mariakirken" and was part of the Benedictine Abbey in the eastern part of the city. A beautiful granite portal from the original church can be seen in the west gable of the church. This granite portal is considered to be the oldest work of art in Aalborg.

The tower of Vor Frue Kirke
The tower has been preserved, but it is clad in the same stone from which the original church was built. The same applies to the Scheelske Chapel. The Pentzske Chapel was rebuilt and the remains - a beautiful epitaph from 1615 from the third chapel - were placed here. Much of the furnishings are from the original church, with the exception of the altar which burned down in 1902 and was replaced in 1908. The church seats 600 people.
