In Solingen, women who carried blade and scissor parts back and forth between the steel goods merchants' offices and the grinding workshops on the streams and the Wupper used to be called delivery women (in dialect: Liewer women). They usually had a basket weighing 15kg to 25kg on their heads. The delivery women were active in the Solingen city area until the 1930s.
