In the Marco Polo travel guide the port of Friedrichskoog is still designated as one of the largest ports on the North Sea. Today it is sad to see how politics condemns an entire region to destruction. In 2015, the barrage was closed and the port forced as well. Previously there were 28 krappenkutter here. Nearly 200 jobs were lost. What a disaster for this beautiful place on the North Sea.
