If you have experienced Rømø in the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, you will surely remember the bathing beach as Denmark's widest motorway, with parking so close to the sea that the waves often lapped up to the wheels. But it is no longer like that. Rømø grows about 2 m to the west every year, and a new row of dunes forms on the beach. Therefore almost the whole coast is car-free beach.

At Lakolk Strand there is still 2 km of coastline, where everything is almost like old times and you can park close to the water. Here you can fly kites, build sandcastles, play ball and the wind makes your hair disheveled. If you want to watch windsurfers, you can find them on the northernmost part of Lakolk Strand. If dogs should be able to run freely, this is allowed in the dune area between the beach and the campsite.
