These grounds are privately owned, but there is public right of way through the property. It is a beautiful walk through woodland.

Beatrix Potter holidayed at Lingholm many times. Her stories, in particular The Tale of Squirrel Nutkin (1903), and The Tale of Mrs. Tiggy-Winkle (1905) have settings inspired by the local landscape.

At this gate into the estate, the view to the south is of the Catbells.
