Construction began around 1280. It is Kirchhain's oldest building. After reconstruction, a late Gothic brick basilica with a painted wooden barrel vault and a late Romanesque brick tower with two pointed helmets was built here.

The church is open and can be visited.

The Protestant parish church “St. Marien” is a listed church building in the small town of Doberlug-Kirchhain in the Elbe-Elster district in southern Brandenburg.

The church, which was built in the 13th century, is one of the oldest buildings in the Kirchhain district, which was an independent town until 1950 and has had city rights since the 15th century.

The church is a medieval three-aisled brick building with a five-sided choir built in the 13th century. In the west of the central nave there is a late Romanesque, slightly retracted west transverse tower, which probably once belonged to a single-nave village church that originally existed here and is crowned by two slated bent helmets.

Over time, after several changes, a late Gothic brick basilica was built. The church originally had three tower structures, which, however, had to be demolished in 1590 due to their disrepair and were replaced by today's two pointed helmets.

In 1899 the building was extensively restored.

The church tower, which today has a double spire from 1737, is the remains of a small Romanesque church that dates back to the 12th century. The nave is vaulted by a wooden barrel decorated with paintings from the 18th century.

The church can be visited every day, at least from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
