"We are proud of our main street because it appears wider than the street 'Unter den Linden' in Berlin," explained the Dobrilugk castle preacher in 1928.
This is thanks to Duke Christian of Saxony-Merseburg, who had the city built in a horseshoe shape according to strict building regulations.
The main axes of the originally baroque planned city run along the main street, Mittelstrasse and Grimmerstrasse as well as the Poststrasse.
