Right past the church, a small pledge and a steep staircase leads down to the beach. Even from a distance you can see the old pier.

The pier in front of the steep coast was built in 1978 by a group of investors. Ferries could moor at the pier. It offered the opportunity to drive to Sønderborg or Aerö and do some duty-free shopping. These trips were particularly popular with pensioners and they gladly used them until certain goods were no longer duty-free. The end of the "butter rides" in 1994 also meant the end of the Neukirchen landing stage. Today, only the massive precious woods rammed deep into the ground are reminiscent of this short epoch. The old pier now belongs to the seagulls.
