Bothmer Castle is located in the middle of an idyllic park. The castle owes its existence to the adventurous life of Count Hans Caspar von Bothmer. He rose to become the first advisor to the English king and lived in the legendary 10 Downing Street. From there he had the magnificent castle built in 1726.

The museum is worth seeing. It tells very clearly not only the history of the castle but also that of Hans Caspar von Bothmer. The audio guide provides additional information to the texts on the panels in the rooms.

The festoon avenue of Bothmer Castle is one of the most famous sights in all of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. A stroll through the castle is a particularly impressive way to experience the interplay between baroque architecture and landscape planning. So don't miss the opportunity to walk through the 270-meter-long sunken path. When you then approach the castle grounds, the flanking trees initially only reveal the magnificent central axis of the main building. With each step, the field of vision expands bit by bit. When you finally reach the courtyard of honor, the splendor of the building can no longer be taken in at a glance. It is a prime example of baroque staging that still has its full effect after 300 years and makes a visit to Bothmer unforgettable at any time of year.
