The wood pug is a fictional character by the humorist Loriot, who was born in Brandenburg and is also an honorary citizen of this city.
October 4, 2021
The wood pug differs from the common pug by its small antlers, which are similar to those of a moose. Since the well-known zoologist Vicco von Bülow alias Loriot (1923-2011) made his sensational discovery public years ago that remnants of this rare animal had survived in the dense forests of northern Scandinavia, the cynological world has not come to rest.

Excerpt from "Finally! The wild forest pug is returning",
by Eckhard Fuhr in WELT from July 6th, 2014:
"Brandenburg wants to be the first city to create a reserve for the endangered forest pug. And in doing so, it is erecting a monument to the discoverer of the rare species and son of the Havel metropolis: Loriot. It's not just wolves that are returning to Brandenburg's forests. The wild forest pug will soon be roaming there again, too. At least in the city park of Brandenburg an der Havel, the Humboldthain.
The first forest pug is currently being created by Clara Walter. The 23-year-old Berliner is studying interior design in Detmold and has won the competition for a Loriot monument in the birthplace of the cartoonist, humorist and actor with her design "The wild forest pug."
