Founded in 1895 as the "Graeflich von Arnimsche Kleinbahn", the Muskau Forest Railway has had a significant influence on industrial development in the Muskau Arch area over the course of its history. For more than 90 years, the narrow-gauge railway with a gauge of only 600 mm was indispensable for the transport of raw materials and industrial products. On a network of around 80 km, it connected industrial companies in the region with clay, lignite and gravel pits.
Right at the end of the forest railway you reach the approx. 200 hectare landscape park, which is characterized by extensive rhododendron and azalea plantings. Historical buildings such as the Rakotzbrücke, the cavalier's house or the manor's palace give the park, created in the 19th century by the landowner Hermann Rötschke, its special charm.

The narrow-gauge railway goes all the way to Bad Muskau. Steam locomotive rides are listed separately, but be careful, "slightly" dusty clothing is to be expected 😉
