"High above the Ruhr bend southwest of Hattingen, the Isenburg Castle, actually "Isenberg Castle," towers enthroned. The former Custodis country house stands within the castle ruins and is a popular destination for hikers and museum enthusiasts. The view over the green Ruhr Valley enchants some, while the eventful history of the castle complex dating back to the 12th/13th century captivates others. The ruins' many walls, cellars, staircases, and niches stimulate the imagination and inspire imaginations about what the castle might have looked like.
