A number of the resistance fighters killed in Rieme (who - since the Rieme execution site had to make way for the Kluizendok - are also commemorated here) were found in a mass grave in Hechtel-Eksel (Limburg). As a result, it is still unclear how many people died there.
Today, this place is a green zone for peace and contemplation, where we commemorate the resistance fighters.
The execution site was protected as a landscape in 1966, because it is important for history and must be preserved for future generations.
