The Holzwarche valley, along with the Perlenbach and Fuhrtsbach valleys near Monschau, is considered one of the two major daffodil areas of the northern Eifel region. Unlike the more frequented Monschau valley, the daffodil meadows along the Holzwarche are generally quieter, less developed for tourism, and therefore particularly pristine.

Due to the presence of rare and endangered plant and animal species, the Holzwarche Valley has been designated a nature reserve covering an area of 3,389.6 hectares since 1978.
